This Hillclimb will be contested on exactly the same course as the historic Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb – the toughest Hillclimb in the world. This addition is in response to the overwhelming popularity of the MWARBH and this year will benefit the Mt. Washington Valley Bicycling Club. In addition to a percentage of the proceeds being donated to this organization, junior racers will also have the opportunity to enter by raising money directly for the non-profit.
The intent of this second Hillclimb is to satisfy the demand for bicycle racing on this hill and to raise money, but it will only be conducted in a way that will not hinder the Tin Mountain Conservation Center’s ability to raise funds in the future through the annual Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb held in August. This climb will mirror the original and only be held if the MWARBH fills completely. Newton’s Revenge is limited to 600 racers.
Emergency Event Support
- Along the 7.6 mile course-there are brown mile marker signs and brown elevation signs.
Central NH Amateur Radio Club (CNHARC): This club is with us every year on a volunteer basis. We could not hold this race without their support. They will be positioned at the base of the Auto Road, at every mile marker, 1/2 way and on the summit. They will be in vehicles signed CNHARC or look for the many antennas attached to their vehicles.
- If you do not make it to the summit please make sure you check in with the Amateur Radio Operator. If you walk back down to the base check in at the base station located on the Auto Road to the left of the entrance to the tent area. The building will be signed Amateur Radio Support.
- Emergency Medical Support is positioned at the base, 1/2 way and at the summit.
- Water will be provided at the summit after you cross the finish line. There are no water stops along the course – you will need to carry your own water during the race.
The Mt. Washington Auto Road reserves the exclusive right to determine who will participate in Newton’s Revenge. We will delay the start time, postpone or cancel the race if the following conditions are reported on the road or summit on the morning of race day : ICE, SNOW, VERY HIGH WINDS or HARD DRIVING RAIN. We will stop the race if conditions are deemed unsafe for the riders in the race or drivers of racer’s vehicles on the Auto Road. We will not cancel the race for “uncomfortable” conditions. You are participating in a race where the venue, Mount Washington, is noted for having very challenging weather conditions, please come prepared for the weather.
The Mt. Washington Auto Road reserves the right to eliminate or disqualify any racer who is under suspension by any sanctioning body.
Refunds will only be processed after Newton’s Revenge registration has sold out and to the extent that there exists eligible replacements on the wait list. All refunds will be processed at $300.00 less $50.00 service fee. No Refunds will be given after May 1.

Ride Back Down
Each rider is responsible for his/her ride down and must show proof (driver in person) of one before receiving a race number. If you do not have a ride back down you will not be able to participate in the race. No cycling down the Auto Road under ANY circumstances. Racers will be given a passenger ticket – this passenger ticket goes to your driver. If your driver has;
- TWO tickets they will have free passage up the Auto Road –
- ONE ticket they will pay the Auto Road fee.
- 0 passenger tickets – they will NOT be permitted on the Auto Road.
- If your car is overloaded with spectators; meaning not enough room for racers and bikes the Toll House may ask for spectators to be removed or will deny passage on the Auto Road. Please read below for more vehicle limitations.
VERY IMPORTANT! Please check the Mt. Washington Auto Road website for rates and vehicle restrictions. Be aware that a number of vehicle makes and models are prohibited from using the Auto Road. There are also weight restrictions depending on the type of vehicle. Check the restrictions to be sure your Honda, Acura and Saturn will be allowed. Vehicles that are over the weight limit will be asked to remove passengers or will NOT be permitted on the Auto Road.
Spectators are not allowed to drive their cars to the summit. Cars on the Auto Road are for racers only. Spectators may hike up the Auto Road prior to the start of the race. There will be a steady stream of cars driving up the road so pedestrians should be alert and stay to the side of the road. Remember there will be 600 cyclists racing up the road in four separate waves, please stay off the road until all racers have passed you.
Stagecoaches will be available to take spectators to the summit. Be early! Tickets will be sold starting at 7:00 am on a first come first served basis. Stages will then proceed to the summit and not return to the base until after the Auto Road reopens at 12:30 p.m. No spectator vans available after 8:00 a.m. No advance ticket sales.
Rates: Adults: $35.00 / Children 5-12 $15.00
For more info please visit the Mt. Washington Auto Road web site.
There will be NO dogs allowed PAST THE BRIDGE on the Auto Road. The bridge is located at the base of the Auto Road and must be crossed to reach the festival tent. Dogs are allowed in the summit-bound vehicle but must remain on a leash once on the summit. So be kind – leave your pet at home.
